TIGER FOOTBALL - JUNE NEWSLETTER

The Season’s Start is Right around the Corner as Offseason winds down

Its summer, which can mean a lot of things:  Nicer weather, Family Vacations, breaks from school work and of course WEIGHT TRAINING.  It’s been an encouraging start to our summer schedule as we had 21 varsity guys who attended the first night of lifting. We have also averaged at least 18 varsity guys since that night.  We have had 11 different JV guys who have attended workouts but only 5 freshmen who have made it at this point.  The Varsity players have showed this type of effort and commitment all year long as they have realized what it takes to compete in our league and at this higher level of competition.

We have also had players attend different camps this summer.  We had 4 individuals (Brandon Castillo, Chris Meekhof, Dustin Guerne and Rich Hinton) who attended the Lineman Camp at Muskegon Oakridge on Tuesday the 13th.  These guys did a great job of representing Grant and competing in drills against other great lineman from around the area.  In addition to this Lineman camp, we also had Eric Evans attend a skills camp which was put on by the Grand Rapids Rampage. Lastly, Mitch Murray took a trip down to MSU to attend a kicking camp. I would like to thank all 6 of you for putting in extra effort outside of our team workouts – “Thanks”

        * 57 days until Birch Run *

Key Reminders for July and August:

        * We need you in the weight room with your teammates. It is open 3 times a week, twice a day.

       * 7 on 7’s will begin on July 8th.  If you are on offense and would ever touch the ball you need to be there.  And if you’re a LB or DB on “D”, you need to attend.   Our first event is July 8th for VARSITY ONLY. It’s at Oakridge vs. Sparta, Kent City, Muskegon Heights and Ravenna.  The other dates are July 11th, 13th, 18th and 20th.  We will be preparing for some of these workouts after a few of the weight room sessions.

       * Varsity Guys, get with Coach Chapman if you’re interested in helping out with the youth football camp.  We expect Eric Evans, Josh Hudson and Rich Hinton (Our Team Captains) to attend, but they could use your help.

       * Several Players have yet to get Physicals.  You need to get this done if you want to play next year.

      * We will have a Lift-a-thon on July 31st… there will be more info in next months newsletter.

     * Community Night will be Tuesday, August 1st*

     * Captains Practice and Equipment handout will be August 2nd and August 3rd.

     * Varsity Players report for two-a-days on August 6th at 7:30 PM… JV starts on Monday Morning August 7th and the freshman will begin in the afternoon on August 7th *

GO TIGERS

VARSITY PARENTS/PLAYERS

We will have a parents and player’s dinner /meeting on Friday, July 7th this year.   The dinner will start at 6:30 PM and will conclude around 7:45ish.

We will be meeting in the Middle School cafeteria at 6:30 PM.  There will be a highlight film of our guys throughout the off-season, some good food and some award recognition for the players work during these past few months.

We look forward to seeing everyone there for a fun and relaxing evening.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGE:

Practice Officially Begins, August 7th. .  Freshman will only be practicing one time a day for the 1st three practices, while the JV and Varsity will be 2 times a day.  Once we put on the pads, all three levels will be from 3-9 PM with an hour break from 5:30-6:30.

We do have one slight change in our schedule. On August 17th, the Varsity will be practicing from 8-11 AM, instead of the afternoon like originally schedule. The freshman and JV will still be going in the afternoon. The reason for this change is Birch Run is scrimmaging that same day at 5:30 PM and the varsity coaching staff needs to be there for scouting purposes.
