THE GMS PHYSICAL EDUCATION STAFF

Ms. Dianne Thompson
Mrs. Thompson was new to our middle school last year, but certainly not to the Grant School District , where she has been teaching PE for over 20 years.

PE Motto: “A Healthy Mind and a Healthy Body”
Students who are physically active are more likely to have good grades than those who are not.  Having an active body increases the activity of the mind.  Students in GMS have an opportunity to be in PE class for at least a 9 week period each year.  We wish it were more.  The foundation of our program is our work on fitness.  At each grade level we work on flexibility (stretching), strength (curl-ups, pushups) and cardiovascular (running) fitness each day.   Students are tested in those fitness areas and have an opportunity to earn a Presidential or National Fitness Award.  We expose students to a variety of sports related activities in the middle school.   Badminton, basketball, boater’s safety, bowling, fitness, flag football, floor hockey, soccer, softball, tennis, tumbling,  volleyball and, with our new fitness center, weight lifting, are the areas students should be exposed to by the end of the 8th grade.   Encourage your child to be physically active outside of their PE class as well.  And turn off that TV !!!
