This is an individualized reading program designed to enhance and support teachers regular reading programs.  In our library we have tagged specific books with a specific graded reading level.  Students are allowed to check out and read those books.  When ready students take a computer comprehension test of the book that they have just read.  The Accelerated Reading program then gives the student a score and puts the book and test into a student's data base.  Teachers and students together can then keep track of how much and how well they are reading.  Teachers can determine by student test scores when to increase the difficulty in the books that students read.  This management system allows both choice and individualized programs for each student.

   The Accelerated Reading program also provides incentives for students to perform well.  Books are rated by their length and given a point value.  When students earn a specific number of points they are able to receive their incentive.  Prizes are given by both the principal and the teacher.  A visit by our principal, Mrs. Galsterer, is always a special experience for each student who earns and award.
