These are web sites, which your family may find informative, educational and may answer some questions about children, parenting and school.  There are some sites, which provide entertainment and education directly to children.  Many of the web sites are from national organizations with excellent reputations.  These sites have reviewed on the web for content.  Please, however, exercise normal caution when visiting these web sites or when having your children use the Internet.  Once you click on one of these websites you will leave the Grant Public School’s web site. 

 

 The American Academy of Pediatrics: This website provides information to parents on a variety of health issues and also reviews several books for sale by the AAP. http://www.aap.org/ 

Aunt Annie’s Craft Page: This web page has new crafts, games and activities for kids every week. http://www.auntannie.com/ 

CHADD:  Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder:A great website for information on the topic of ADD or ADHD. http://www.chadd.org/

 Child Abuse Prevention Network: This website provides links to numerous websites on the subject of child abuse.  It also includes links to sites in other areas of interest to parents and professional child care/educators. http://child.cornell.edu/ 

Children's Defense Fund: The  Children's Defense Fund exists to provide a strong and effective voice for all the children of America, who cannot vote, lobby, or speak for themselves. http://www.childrensdefense.org/

Child Support Enforcement:  This website helps parents collect child support. http://www.supportkids.com/

 The Council for Exceptional Children: The largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. http://www.cec.sped.org/

Early Childhood Today: “The online version of Early Childhood Today, a magazine published by Scholastic as a classroom resource for preschool and kindergarten teachers and directors.”  (Copied from the webpage) http://scholastic.com/ect/index.htm

Educational Leadership: This is the online version of the magazine. http://www.ascd.org/pubs/el/elintro.html 

Encarta Online: This is a great website!  The website is a free version online version of Encarta Encyclopedia.  The website has an excellent listing of websites for both the parent and teacher.   http://encarta.msn.com/

 ERIC: Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood.  This particular ERIC website is at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign.   This web site is an excellent website for teachers and parents who want to research a particular topic.  The ERIC database is one of the largest educational databases in the world.  The database will allow you to search by a number of descriptors including, authors, titles and keywords.  The search will give you a selection of articles and provide you with a short article summary.  The articles themselves, however, are not online and you must contact a college library in most instances to obtain actual articles. http://ericeece.org/ 

ERIC:  National Parent Information Network.  This ERIC website is specifically designed for parents.  It provides book reviews and summaries on different books of wide ranging topics for parents. Parents can ask questions online and have their answers return by email.   The website also has a subscription magazine service, a listing of parent resources, listings of parenting conferences, a database on articles and much, much more.  This website is a heavy-duty website aimed more at parents who are more literate and interested in research.  http://npin.org/

Kids on the Block Puppets:  This is a national organization, which teaches empathy and understanding in children for other children who have disabilities.  This website provides information on how you can start your own Kids on the Block chapter in your area. http://www.kotb.com/kob2.htg/troupe.html

NAEYC:  The National Association for the Education for Young Children.  This website, of course, is an excellent website for teachers, but it also devotes resources and information to parents.  The website has online parenting brochures and articles.  In addition the website summarizes books and other information produced by the NAEYC. PBS Online: This is a comprehensive website to all PBS programs.  It is a very good overall site.  PBS Online has sections devoted to kids, education, art, photography, history, science, technology, and adult learning.  Younger children will like the site because it contains links and games to kid favorites like Arthur, The Magic School Bus and Kratt’s Creatures.   http://www.pbs.org/

 Positive Parenting.Com This website provides practical and informative articles on the issue of parenting. http://www.positiveparenting.com/

700 Hundred Great Sites: This website provides links to 700 sites just for kids.  The sites include games, activities, museums, and sources of information for children; places for children post their artwork etc.... http://www.ala.org/parentspage/greatsites/amazing.html

 Squirrel Tales: This website has practical tips for parents of children with cancer.  http://www.squirreltales.com/ 

UNICEF:  United Nations Children’s Fund: An organization that is advocate for children worldwide.  This is a great site for parents, and all people to become more involved in helping children across the world.  http://www.unicef.org/
